With age comes wisdom? Yes, but also clumsiness!

Yes that's right! I have managed to break my foot. I don't even have a good story to tell. I just fell down my stairs. I was at the top of my stairs and I took a step down with my left foot and it slipped. My stairs are quite steep and the carpet is slick! Anyway, my left foot took off and my right foot stayed at the top. I haven't done the splits for a really long time but I'm here to tell you that I still can. I finally stopped myself about half way down and somehow brought my right leg down to my left and relocated my right hip. Yes it hurt but I was too embarrassed to acknowledge it. I hobbled around for a couple of days and then when I was back at work the other day, I had one of the doctors xray it and sure enough it is broken. I was given a boot and sternly told that anytime my foot touches the floor it needs to be in the boot. I am fairly compliant with this because it feels much better in the boot. I am wearing this for the next six weeks! This part will be hard when it starts to feel better.

Tour de Cure!

We did it! I really should say "I did it" it wasn't much of a challenge for Brooks. I didn't get any pictures during the ride because my camera was too big to take on the bike with me so I just took one when we got home of one of our T-shirts and some other stuff they gave us. It was harder than I expected. Mostly because we had a horrible head wind the last 7 or 8 miles back. We had a little rain those last few miles also but not too bad. The ride was pretty uneventful except that when we started, we were riding over an over pass and I was trying to gear down and my chain came off. I stopped and my bike kind of fell over and then two women that were riding behind me rode up to Brooks and told him that I had tipped over! Brooks thought that I really had tipped over until we were driving home and talking about it. The rest of the first half went really smooth. We rode to Bear River City and there was a rest stop with all kinds of snacks and water and power drinks. (port a potties also) We sat and snacked for a few minutes and then got back on our bikes for the return ride. The route was a little different on the way back and the first five or so miles were really easy. I felt great and we made really good time. At one point I thought we would get back really fast. I was very wrong! The sky started to cloud over and then we turned East and that is when we got the head winds. Some of the gusts made it seem like we weren't even moving. We hit a really busy highway with no shoulder and cars just whizzing past us. At one point we got off to walk a little ways. Some other bikers were doing this. We decided it was harder to walk than ride so we just got back on and rode. The last few miles, all of the 100 mile rider were passing us. I felt pretty wimpy by then but I really was doing my best. When we got to the finish, we were riding downhill and all of the volunteers and families of riders were there to cheer us and tell us good job. I thought for a minute I might run over one of them. We were a little wet but not too bad. We had good clothes for the elements. It took us about three hours to do the ride. We didn't stay for the free food, the wind was really blowing so we decided to go to Maddox. Always a good choice! When we were loading our bikes into the truck, I was watching Brooks and I thought, "I should really help him." I told him that and he said that he was fine and he really didn't feel like he had done much of anything today. Not fair! I will say that at 7:00 PM tonight, he was in bed.

What have I learned from this day? I am really happy that I did the ride. People are generous! You know who you are and thank you, it means more to me than you know to be supported so well! I want to do this again next year but I need to be better physically prepared so I can enjoy it more. I'm not sure how many prayers I said today (some-where in the neighborhood of 50-100) but most of them were answered! I am so very grateful that I have a patient husband who was willing to do this with me. It would have been really hard to do it alone. Yes! I will do this again next year. As soon as I find out when, I am putting a team together so those of you that might be interested, plan on it.

Random

Is anyone frustrated with this weather? I was just going out to mow my lawn and it has started raining! How does the grass even grow when there is never any sun? I may still mow in the rain if it doesn't stop soon. It needs to be done. I want some good weather! As many of you know already, Saturday I'm riding my bike in the Tour de Cure for diabetes held in Brigham. I am definitely a fair weather person so pray for sun. I am excited for this. Right now, I am trying to talk Brooks into riding with me so I don't have to go alone. This is a fundraiser for diabetes and is quite successful. If anyone is interested in donating leave me a message and I will send you an email of how to do it. I will post pictures about it next week. This is a first for me but I guess you're never too old for something new.
All of this other stuff is of the last few weeks of spring. (spring?) Soccer and T-ball. Since this blog is my journal I want to get all of my pictures posted. I finally made my last year book and it turned out okay. I learned a lot and this years will be much better.

Last Day of School

It was Jaxon's last day of school last week and the kindergarten held a graduation ceremony. It was a really cute program and the kids were very enthusiastic about the whole thing. I enjoyed every minute of it! Jaxon had a part in it and did a very good job. I didn't get many pictures of it because I was also filming it. It turns out that the video didn't take due to an error with the disk. I am really disappointed because I could have some better pictures and the movie I thought that I was getting was good also.

Jax and Bryn in front of the school for one last picture.

After the program was finished, the kids put their graduation hats on and went up onto the stage one at a time to receive their diplomas from the Principal. Jax didn't like the hat much. I had to beg him to put it back on for a picture. Thanks for inviting me Jaxon, I loved it all!
I'm sure everyone is wondering why I am posting Jaxon's graduation and not Kara. You'll have to ask her why. I told her to do it and I would just put up some pictures but she told me to just go ahead. I love to write about my grand kids and post pictures but I don't want to steal Kara's thunder. So, it's time again Kara. You too Suzette.

Family baby shower for Kelsey

Today my niece, Tami, held a family baby shower for Kelsey and her baby boy. Kelsey has picked a name for him but I will let her announce it. I'm thinking of a name that I will call him. The shower was very nice! The food was amazing, Tami outdid herself and didn't miss a detail. The gifts were really wonderful and everyone was very generous. This baby won't want for anything. It was great to get together with family again, which is my most favorite thing to do.

Kara, Suzette, Jordan and Grandma Joycelyn
Brady's mom and sister Stacey

Grandma Audrey and Michelle. I know the eyes are shut but I only took one picture, sorry.

Kelsey's sister-in-law Steph

Mallory, Lynette and Grandma A.

Kelsey and Grandma helping with preparations. You've got to have at least one picture of your belly.

You can't see this at all but it is of Tami and her girls, Brooky and Britt with the table of food.

Kelsey with her haul. Yes you are seeing some pink! One of Brady's Aunts got a little mixed up. We had a good laugh with it and it's really the thought that counts. Right?

Happy Mothers Day

Today is Mothers Day. I first want to wish every mother a happy day. I love being a mother, and now especially a grandmother! I love my children, their spouses, my parents, in laws and any other "mother" that has influenced my life in a positive way. We are all far from perfect and I remember many a mothers day when I felt totally insecure and a failure. I think that most of us have felt that way many times. All of us are trying! At least all of you that I have mentioned are trying. Motherhood is not for the weak. There is nothing easy about it and now with all of life's extra challenges things become even harder. This is why I am so happy to be a part of the "club" or "sisterhood" of mothers. If someone acts like this is easy or they have no problems, they are LYING! I know that my mothers, sisters, daughters, nieces and friends will never claim that this is easy and we all have and always will support one another. So, have a great day, hug your families, do something for yourself, eat plenty of food and just remember....tomorrow is another day for something else to challenge us. I love you all!

What's all the Buzz?

I have a good friend who has a daughter with some great talents! (she can be my friend also right?) Anyway, the blog is www.hollyhocks&honeybees.blogspot.com, and she is having a show with other vendors on the 14th and 15th of May. I'm blogging about this to be entered into her give a way. If you want a chance to win, just visit her site, or if you want to attend her "Hive 2" you can come with me. I plan on attending! Good fun!
